Get help with benefits and managing finances

Telephone 01308 424930 or call into Bridport & District Citizens Advice office at 45 South Street and ask for an appointment with the Mencap adviser at Bridport and District Citizens Advice

West Dorset Mencap are working with Bridport and District Citizens Advice to help you and your family manage all sorts of benefit and financial issues, including making a new benefit claim and challenging a benefit decision.

Appointments for advice can be made with Sarah Silcox, an experienced adviser at the CAB, on a Friday morning at the CAB’s office 45 South Street, Bridport, DT6 3NY.

Alternatively, appointments may be available in Beaminster and Lyme Regis.

Appointments with Sarah usually last around an hour and family members/advocates are very welcome.

Sarah commented ‘The benefit system is so complicated, and often it’s difficult to work out whether you are getting all the benefits to which you are entitled. I can help by doing a benefit check and helping you (and your family) apply for any that you might be missing out on. We also have a specialist team who can help challenge a benefit decision, for example, a decision not to award the higher-rate mobility component in PIP, or problems with universal credit”.

West Dorset Mencap is based in East Street, Bridport, and aims to support those with a learning disability living in the region.  It regularly supports community projects, such as the workshops at Bridport Arts Centre and financial requests from individuals who are setting up their own home and need to buy equipment.
