West Dorset Mencap assists with funding two very important activity clubs. The first is the Gateway Club which offers a varied programme of music and activity at the WI Hall in Bridport. Club nights are fortnightly and offer activities to support people with learning disabilities ranging from discos to singing workshops. The meetings are organised by Harry Britton and Maureen Rosbrook who are both on the West Dorset Mencap committee, they are supported by a fantastic team of volunteers.
The second club is Bridport Busy Bees which is co-ordinated by Carolyn Brightwater and Angie Blow. Carolyn and Angie arrange a programme of social events such as bowling at nearby Freshwater Holiday Park, pub meals and quizzes
Both of these clubs have the aim of offering social activities to those with a learning disability living in West Dorset. The region is very rural and it is vital we offer activity to encourage new friendships, develop skills and learning and offer general well being.
